Assemblage Collections
“An act of putting various fragments of seemingly unrelated objects together to compose a piece”
These assemblage pieces stem from my first love and first art practices - sewing and collage. I used to sew band patches on every inch of my clothing using dental floss. The contrast between the black band patches and the bright white stitching was stark and beautiful. These works include pieces of my travels and objects found on job sites like high end designer wall-covering, tile, fabric, and even street detritus. I incorporate pieces of who I am. Portions of my daily calendars, notebooks and other personal items are sewn directly onto a surface. Oftentimes I add paint to solidify the work. The labor of sewing every edge down with contrastive floss commands attention and respect of the work involved.
